19th Century View of the Praya Grande from the North

A base de licitação desta pintura - Chinese School, 19th Century View of the Praya Grande from the North, Macao - num leilão em Boston (EUA) em 2004 rondava os 15.000 dólares, mas acabou por ser vendida por 35.250 dólares.

Trata-se de um óleo sobre tela (76x43 cm) de ca. 1850 não assinado (da chamada Escola Chinesa). Apresenta uma perspectiva da baía da Praia Grande vista de Norte para Sul. Nos edifícios civis destaque para um que tem hasteada uma bandeira do EUA e ainda a Sé catedral com as duas torres (lado direito). À esquerda a colina Penha e a ermida com o mesmo nome. Ancorados na baía estão várias embarcações, incluindo juncos, tancares, sampanas e ainda um navio de pás a vapor com bandeira dos EUA. As figuras humanas são apresentadas junto ao (que viria ser) jardim de S. Francisco, primeiro passeio público do território (1860).

This painting  - 17 x 30 inches - was sold in an auction in Boston in 2004 for $35.250.  It's from 19th century c. 1850 - "Chinese School" - and it shows a biew of the Praya Grande bay from the North. Unsigned. 

This oil on canvas shows a row of western style buildings with an American flag flying above one, the sweeping curve of the Praya Grande to the right, the hill Penha to the left with a church, several Chinese junks and a sidewheeler flying an American flag in the foreground. Human figures on the right, near S. Francisco garden already a green spot but built in 1860.
