Macau Antigo Blog Reaches New All-Time High with Over 700,000 Monthly Views
The historical blog Macau Antigo has broken its all-time audience record, recording 711,434 page views in August, according to figures provided by its host platform, Blogger. This achievement surpasses the blog’s previous record set in March, when it approached the half-a-million mark, further solidifying its status as the largest online archive dedicated to the history of Macau.
Founded in 2008, the daily-updated project has now accumulated over 6.4 million total views and nearly 7,000 published entries. According to readership metrics, the blog's top five audience origins are the United States, Portugal, Brazil, Macau, and Singapore.
To mark this milestone, Macau Antigo will publish a series of rare and previously unpublished historical items throughout September. Among the upcoming highlights are 19th-century watercolors, an 18th-century letter written in Macau’s native Patuá creole, and an exceptionally rare photograph of the St. Paul’s Ruins.
A Rare Glimpse of 19th-Century St. Paul’s
One of the cornerstone releases for September is a rare photograph captured between 1861 and 1863 by pioneering photographer Milton Miller—believed to be one of the earliest photographs ever taken of Macau’s iconic landmark.
Taken less than three decades after the catastrophic fire of January 1835 that destroyed the Jesuit College of St. Paul and the adjacent Mater Dei Church, the photograph offers significant architectural insights:
Structural Remains: Stone walls that once supported the wooden roof remain visible, alongside a vaulted structure with a dome near the back wall.
Missing Bell Tower: The bell tower that historically stood on the right side of the main facade is notably absent. Damaged sections of these walls were likely repurposed to establish the St. Paul’s Catholic Cemetery at the rear of the site, which operated until the opening of St. Michael’s Cemetery in 1854.
Pre-Na Tcha Era: The image captures the site decades before the construction of the neighboring Na Tcha Temple in 1888.
"The successive audience records serve as an incentive to continue expanding and refining this archive, keeping the history of Macau accessible to a global audience," stated the project's creator.

19世纪大三巴牌坊珍贵旧照曝光
在9月即将发布的文献中，最引人瞩目的是摄影先驱米尔顿·米勒（Milton Miller）于1861月至1863年间拍摄的大三巴牌坊照片。该照片被认为是这一澳门标志性建筑现存最早的照片之一。
这张照片拍摄于1835年1月摧毁圣保禄学院及附设的圣母雪地殿教堂的惨烈大火发生后不到30年，展示了许多宝贵的建筑细节：
建筑遗存： 照片中仍可见当年支撑木制屋顶的部分石墙，以及靠近后墙处带穹顶的拱顶结构。
消失的钟楼： 原本位于教堂主界面右侧的钟楼在照片中已不复存在。据分析，这些受损的墙体很可能被拆卸并用于在教堂后方修建圣保禄公墓（供天主教徒使用），该公墓一直使用至1854年城外圣弥额尔小堂公墓启用为止。
哪吒庙修建前貌： 照片记录了该区域在1888年于圣母雪地殿教堂旧址后方修建哪吒庙之前的原始面貌。
